Trailer Of The Week - Week #16

Perhaps a case of a trailer not selling a film well enough, the trailer for Hanna looks, well... OK. In the US, the film has been going down a storm though with a 71% approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes and a very high average on IMDb (8.1 as I write, although this is almost certain to dip later). Joe Wright, director of Atonement, returns with that film's Oscar-nominated co-star Saoirse Ronan, who stars here as the sixteen year-old titular assassin, trained by her father (Eric Bana) and pursued by uber-spy Marissa (Cate Blanchett). Perhaps one to look out for when it arrives on these shores in May then. Hopefully, with a better trailer in tow.

Trailer Of The Week is a regular Film Intel feature which picks a different tasty trailer of delectable goodness every week and presents it on Sunday for your viewing pleasure. Sometimes old, sometimes new, sometimes major, sometimes independent, sometimes brilliant, sometimes a load of old bobbins: always guaranteed to entertain. 2. I had the fortune of seeing this ono the weekend since it has come out in my neck of the woods. I don't recall much of the trailer, but the film itself is quite the ride. AS expected, it was off-kilter in a lot of areas, from the setup, to even the side characters Hanna would meet. It's most definitely worth a trip to the cinema.

  3. Lesya - me too, the reviews have not only been great but make some very interesting claims about the non-standard narrative. Looking forward to catching it.

Edgar - Glad to hear that. Another positive reaction to what, considering its budget and the films it opened up against, is turning into a mini-hit.

  4. I wouldn't go in thinking it's got a non-standard narrative - it's a pretty straightforward actioner. The difference is in the flourishes that Wright brings to it, along with the kickass soundtrack, along with just some ways in which it avoids the standard cliches of an action flick, as well as bringing some humanity to it all. I really enjoyed it, and have come to appreciate it even more since seeing it. Can't wait to buy it!
