From The Files Of... An Unexpected 'For Your Consideration' Poster

An Oscar campaign for Harry Potter has been muted for a while but the existence of this poster shows just how seriously Warner Brothers are taking the whole thing. The highlighting of the words 'great cinematic journeys' in the pull quote suggest that Warners are trying to play on the fact that an Oscar for Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is an Oscar for the entire series, à la, Lord Of The Rings. Equally, there's no listing of the more technical awards, which might suggest that they reckon they have a decent chance of being nominated for something there anyway. The picture - which is two thirds Hagrid, one third Harry - seems designed to play up the 'darker' and more dramatic sides of the franchise, you know, the side of films that win Oscars and such like. Chances of it getting a nod in any of those categories? I don't see it. The more traditional awards-baiting films due in the next month would have to disappoint hugely for it to sneak in.

  1. I can't see it getting these sort of awards.

  2. No, I don't either. And as pointed out by someone else earlier - the votes for the 'child friendly' film, appear to be heading towards HUGO at the moment.

  3. Bit of a non-starter for me, handsomely made productions but I don't think people have ever viewed them as Oscar worthy films

  4. Yeah, I think some ardent fans would still be hard pressed to claim this one (or any of the others) are worthy of Best Film.
