Trailer Of The Week - Week #40

Tony Curtis' sad passing on Thursday had me immediately thinking back to one of my favourite childhood films; Blake Edwards' rather under-appreciated The Great Race. A comedy structured around a cross-continental car race, Curtis stars as The Great Leslie, a whiter than white racer with charm and charisma to burn. Leslie's nemesis, Professor Fate, is played by the equally great Jack Lemmon, the duo re-teaming after Some Like It Hot to great effect. The film blends plenty of slapstick (as seen in the trailer below) with great production values and some genuinely clever moments (the scene on the iceberg is a highlight) whilst Lemmon steals the show as the dastardly villain. A really joyful and epic comedy and a timely reminder of why many will miss these two screen presences so much.
